How these eighteen services fit together
Flooring work in Toronto splits three ways. There is putting a new surface down, which is the installation group. There is keeping the surface you already have, which is refinishing and repair. And there is the structural layer underneath both of them, which is subfloor repair and levelling. Most jobs that go wrong in this city go wrong because somebody priced the first group without checking the third.
That is why the service pages here all describe the same first step. We measure joist spacing, identify the subfloor material, check flatness over six and ten feet, and test moisture. On a wood subfloor that means a meter reading on both the deck and the new material, because the National Wood Flooring Association asks for those two numbers to sit within four percent of each other for strip flooring and within two percent for plank. On concrete it means an in-situ relative humidity probe, drilled to forty percent of slab depth where the slab dries from one side, left for at least twenty-four hours.
