How to read a Toronto flooring quote
Two quotes for the same floor can differ by thousands and both be honest, because Toronto contractors publish prices on two different bases. A flooring store quoting $2 per square foot is quoting labour only, with the material bought separately. A contractor quoting $12 is quoting supplied and installed. Adding one to the other is the most common way a homeowner ends up comparing nothing at all.
The second thing to check is what the number excludes. A published Toronto figure of roughly $7,400 for a thousand square feet of solid red oak is real, and it is material plus labour only. Add removal at around $1.50 per square foot, trim at about $2.80 per linear foot and typical subfloor preparation, and the same job lands near $10,000, which is where the all-in sources sit. Neither figure is wrong. They answer different questions.
